Loyola Provost and Senior Vice President Cheryl Moore-Thomas, Ph.D., named to The Daily Record鈥檚 Top 100 Women list
Cheryl Moore-Thomas, Ph.D., provost and senior vice president 麻豆官网首页入口 University Maryland, was named to The Daily Record鈥檚 2026 list. The list recognizes 鈥渉igh-achieving Maryland women who are making an impact through their leadership, community service, and mentoring,鈥� according to The Daily Record. Winners are selected by past Top 100 Women honorees and business leaders.
鈥淒r. Moore-Thomas exemplifies the epitome of leadership, scholarship, and advocacy. The work she has undertaken in advancing the heart of our academic institution has been transformational,鈥� said Terrence M. Sawyer, J.D., president of Loyola. 鈥淎 distinguished scholar with deep connections to Loyola University and Baltimore, Dr. Moore-Thomas is also a compassionate mentor who tirelessly invests in the personal and professional development of students and colleagues. She is universally revered throughout the community, and I am grateful to have her as a member of my leadership team at this moment in Loyola鈥檚 history.鈥�
Moore-Thomas鈥� title expanded from provost to provost and senior vice president in spring 2025. She was named provost and vice president for academic affairs in 2023 after serving in the role in an interim capacity for almost two years. Previously, she served as the University鈥檚 inaugural chief equity and inclusion officer, associate vice president for graduate academic affairs and diversity, associate vice president for faculty affairs and diversity, chair of the education specialties department, and as associate dean of the School of Education.
After joining the Loyola faculty as an assistant professor of education in 2001, Moore-Thomas earned tenure in 2007 and was promoted to full professor of education in 2017. She began her career as a teacher and school counselor in Montgomery County Public Schools.
Author of the book, College and Career Readiness: A Guide for School Counselors K-12, published in 2019, Moore-Thomas received Loyola鈥檚 inaugural Faculty Award for Excellence in Graduate Teaching in 2017. She has served on the boards of Marian House, Archbishop Borders School, and the Carroll County Community College Psychology Department Advisory Board.
A longtime resident of Baltimore, Moore-Thomas earned her doctorate in counselor education from the University of Maryland at College Park and both her bachelor鈥檚 degree in elementary education summa cum laude and her master鈥檚 degree in school counseling from Loyola. Two of her siblings and her father also graduated from Loyola.
This marks the second time that Moore-Thomas has landed on The Daily Record鈥檚 Top 100 Women list after being recognized for 2024.
