Graduate Assistantship Position Information

Position Graduate Assistant for Alcohol and Other Drug (AOD) Education
Hours and Wages The Graduate Assistant (GA) will work up to 20 hours per week. They will receive an hourly wage of $20 for the first 10 hours worked each week. The remaining 10 hours will be compensated through a housing plan provided by the Office of Residence Life and Housing. This plan includes a furnished living space along with select utilities.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree and full-time enrollment in a Âé¶¹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú graduate program.

  • Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds and experiences.
  • Knowledge of common college student experiences, challenges, and developmental needs.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to motivate, supervise, and/or advise student leaders.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects independently while maintaining attention to detail.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Teams, with a willingness to learn new technologies (training provided as needed).
  • High level of professionalism, integrity, and commitment to ethical conduct.
Responsibilities
  • Student Integrity Hearings
    • Adjudicate hearings for violations of university alcohol and drug policies.
    • Meet weekly with supervisor to review case management.
    • Track student progress and completion of required sanctions (e.g., substance screenings, counseling sessions, online modules, writing assignments, civility hours, loss of privileges, and alternative resolutions).
    • Use university integrity software to process incident reports, build cases, manage electronic files, and upload documentation.
  • Education and Programming
    • Collaborate with campus partners to design, plan, and implement two university‑wide alcohol and drug education programs.
    • Plan small and large‑scale educational programs during high‑risk times of the year.
    • Create monthly AOD‑focused tabling opportunities.
    • Develop innovative outreach projects and social norms campaigns related to alcohol and drug prevention.
    • Assist with planning and executing campus‑wide trainings and presentations (may include some evenings and weekends).
    • Research current trends in college health related to alcohol and other drug use.
    • Stay informed about emerging health information to serve as an accurate educational resource.
  • Student Integrity Ambassadors
    • Support the recruitment, training, and onboarding of members of Student Integrity Ambassadors.
    • Supervise 5-6 ambassadors and hold weekly check-ins.Serve as a non-voting advisor during SIA hearings.
  • Student Development Division
    • Participate in weekly case management meetings, biweekly office-staff meetings, quarterly trainings, and professional development activities.
    • Attend January GA training (typically the Thursday and Friday before January Opening; full-day attendance required from 9:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m.).
    • Provide administrative support and other duties as assigned.
    • Complete other duties as assigned.
Expectations 
  • The SIRJ Graduate Assistant employment period is for the entire academic year, starting on Monday, August 3, 2026, and ending on Sunday, May 16, 2027.
  • Student Integrity Graduate Assistants are required to work 20 hours/week to meet the terms of their contract. Of those 20 hours, up to 5 hours weekly can be allocated to support the Student Development divisional needs.
  • GAs will primarily work in-person Monday to Friday, between 9 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., with occasional evening and weekend hours as needed.
  • GAs are expected to adhere to all University policies. Any violation of university policy shall result in referrals to the university Student Integrity process and, pending the outcome, result in probation or termination of employment.
  • The Director of Student Integrity and Restorative Justice Practices (or their designee) must approve any adjustments to the approved schedules for all GAs. All extracurricular activities, outside employment, or non-credit internships must be discussed in advance with the Director of SIRJ (or their designee) prior to being accepted by the GA. If approved, these changes must be put in writing. Please note that no more than 10 hours per week of these activities will be approved.
  • GAs must fulfil all expectations outlined in this document and their contract. Failure to meet any of these expectations will result in job action, which includes but is not limited to written warning, suspension/loss of pay, and/or termination from the assistantship.
